I have activated this lighthouse on 9th August 2001 ...17th April 2002 and September 2006

ARDRISHAIG Lighthouse is on LOCH GILP/LOCH FYNE and is located 1.87miles/3Kms from the town of LOCHGILPHEAD, SCOTLAND, it guards the eastern entrance to the CRINAN CANAL.

The Crinan Canal starts from ARDRISHAIG on Loch Gilp/Loch Fyne and after 9 miles it flows into the Sound of Jura at CRINAN, the canal was constructed 1793 to1801, it's purpose was to enable ships to reach the Atlantic Ocean from Loch Fyne, without having to make the long and often stormy passage of the KINTYRE peninsula away to the south. Unfortunatly by the time the Canal was finished new transatlantic vessels being built were to wide to use the Canal, now it is mainly used by small coasters, fishing boats and yachts, Queen Victoria traversed the canal by barge in1847.

The "ROAD CLOSED" photo, this on the main road (A816) OBAN to ARDRISHAIG, I had a 3 hour delay in activating ARDRISHAIG lighthouse, as you can see in the photo a big buildup of traffic in 3 hours, in total 10 vehicles hi.
