My first visit to FIDRA lighthouse April 2005. Location: On the east coast Scotland, 17.5 miles/28Kms NE of Edinburgh and 2miles/3.5Kms west of the town of NORTH BERWICK. FIDRA is a small rocky island 0.2 miles/0.3 Kms off the mainland, it is also a NATURE RESERVE. Fidra island is said to be the inspiration for ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON'S famous book "Treasure Island". The Tower is 55 feet/37 meters high and was engineered by David and Thomas Stevenson. it began operation in 1885 and was automated in 1970 and is still operational today.
